Vengeance is just:

Justly we rid the world of fiends

Who carry hell for pattern in their souls.

But in high vengeance there is noble scorn:

It tortures not the torturer, nor gives

Iniquitous payment for iniquity.

The great avenging angel does not crawl

To kill the serpent with a mimic fang;

She stands erect, with sword of keenest edge

That slays like lightning.

Note: Your character will need to be at least level 110 and have completed the Battle of Lorderon scenario. Otherwise you may be 'phased out' during the first event.

Under a tepid wind, the Starrunner glides in as close as it dares to the coast of Tirisfal Glades, but it is difficult to see far beyond the distant shoreline. A thick fog or smoke hangs heavily over the unfamiliar landscape, adding to the perpetual gloom even at mid-day. The sun and moon have not touched this land in a long time.

As you, your equipment, and nightsabers are carefully lowered onto the waiting landing skiffs, little is said by either your fellow Sentinels or the ship's crew. All know for certain that danger awaits in the coming days and weeks, but none can say exactly where or when.

Thus begins your hunt.

Forming up on the north coast of Tirisfal Glades. The Sentinels land amidst the devastation left behind from the Siege of Undercity. Rotting war machines and corpses litter the landscape.

Setting off towards the Undercity. The ruins of war are everywhere, and the stench of death is overpowering.

Arrival in the ruins of Brill. Here the Sentinels scavage the abandoned Alliance siege camp for equipment and supplies.

Searching the Alliance camp.

Surrounded by the walking dead. Lingering too long, the Sentinels have woken the restless dead. Here they fight a fierce battle with skeletons and zombies, having to cut their way out of town while mounted on their nightsabers.

A destination revealed. Finding their path to the Undercity blocked by undead and blight, Adellwyna reveals their next point of search: Quel'Thalas.

Begining the long march northwards.

Passing through the abandoned Bulwark.

A land reborn. They find welcome respite in the now-lush forests and fields of Lordaeron.

The Sentinels make camp near a farm, resting before the next leg of their journey.

A short detour. The Sentinels are approached by a representative of the Argent Crusade, informing them that they have a prisoner in their possession that might be of interest: a dark ranger.

The mighty fortress town of Hearthglen.

The dark ranger, Sarina, awaits her fate. Despite a contentious meeting, she agrees to offer the Sentinels some desperately needed information. She informs them that Sylvanas was last known to be heading northwards, into Quel'Thalas.

Sarina also warns the Sentinels that Sylvanas knows she will be pursued, and will leave all manner of enemies, tricks, and traps to dissuade them.

A shocking discovery. On their return to the Menders' Stead, the Sentinels find that both the Stead and the entire nearby farm have been destroyed during their brief absence. Not mere coincidence, the Sentinels suspect they are now hunted as well. They waste no time here, not even burying the dead.

Eastweald. The Sentinels continue their march into the still corrupted Eastern Plaguelands.

Something stirred in the darkest reaches of the Plaguelands.

Nearly as tall as the trees around it, the creature had nestled itself in this forgotten grove of dead and dying pine trees. Sitting on the brown grass, it had drawn up its legs against its body and now hugged its knees, rocking back and forth as a scared child might. Occasionally, a whimpering sob escaped what remained of its lips.

End my suffering...

Kill them all.

Leave me alone...

Obey your Mistress.

Let me die...

The voices vacillated in its mind, unending...overwhelming. The creature clasped its blood-covered hands to its ears in a hopeless attempt to block out the unrelenting barrage of whispers.

Let me rest...

Hunt them down.

The pain is too great...

Smash them. Crush them!

Give me peace...

You are mine.

The creature finally tilted back its head towards the sky and uttered a scream of anguish and terror that echoed for miles through the deserted glades and corrupted valleys of the Plaguelands.

I created you. Do as you are told.

With a groan, it stood to its feet and set off into the hazy gloom that was mid-day in this cursed land.

He would do as he was told.

Welcoming a new Sister into the Cadre.

Continuing through the Plaguelands.

A new ally.

The Sentinels reach the river crossing, an old and rotting bridge...

And find themselves beset by a creature of nightmares when they try to pass over: a massive construct of cast-off body parts and metal emerges from the river. The horrific creature smashes the bridge to splinters, sending several Sentinels into the water.

After a fierce battle, the Sentinels manage to fight off the towering Nemesis. It topples into the river and quickly sinks beneath the surface.

Reaching the border of Quel'thalas, and passing through the first Elfgate.

They enter the lands of the Sin'dorei unhindered...

But not unnoticed. A pair of wary Farstriders confront the Sentinels, demanding to know their purpose for intruding into Eversong Woods.

After a tense parlay, the two sides reach an agreement. The Sentinels will be allowed to pass through Eversong Woods, but only under close escort from the Farstriders.

Crossing the Dead Scar.

Arrival at Windrunner Spire.

While searching the tower, a trap is sprung. Several of the Sentinels collapse to the floor in a deep slumber, while those remaining fight off shadowy apparitions in the forms of their sleeping sisters. For those caught in the sleep, they are shown disturbing visions and given a choice: sacrifice their Sisters and be given the knowledge and power to stop Sylvanas; or save the lives of their comrades and allow the Banshee queen to continue unopposed.

Regrouping at the base of the Spire. Having survived the trap and passed the 'test,' the Sentinels learn that they must now venture into Deatholme and recover a sliver of root from Thas'alah, the Mother Tree.

For those who were at the event, and were curious what the 'sleeping' Sentinels saw in their vision:

[[When a leaf brushes against your exposed skin you feel something...something familiar...and a sense of terrible and immediate danger. You suddenly feel very sleepy, as if you haven't slept in weeks. The floor looks so inviting. If only you could rest and close your eyes for a few moments...And then you awake in your worst fear ever. Trapped. Defeated.

Your fellow Sisters are still all around you, but yet...not there. They shimmer and fade in the gloom...they cannot hear or see you, but you can still see them.

Your Sisters! They are fighting...shadowy apparitions swarming out of the walls! The Sentinels fight bravely, but there are too many shadows...their weapons have little effect...Not only that, the apparitions all look like you!

You sense that you are not alone, though. That someone else might be here as well, lingering amongst the shadows.

After a while you hear a voice, and an apparition, different from the ones attacking your Sisters, beckons you over. It calls you by name. The real you. Your heartbeat races. It doesn't feel dangerous, and the apparition asks you to come even closer. The apparition asks if you can remember certain people, names that you have never heard before, images, faces, places that you can’t remember.

The apparition begins talking about Sylvanas…the Banshee Queen. How in days gone by she was a hero, a defender of the Sin'dorei against evil and an archer without equal. But now she is evil itself. Responsible for the horrific death, suffering, and destruction wrought upon your people.

Then the apparition tells you something you do not expect. It tells you that -you- alone can stop Sylvanas!

The apparition has a plan to stop her with your help! The apparition knows of a way that could destroy her forever. It says that by killing a sacrifice, you will be strong enough to defeat her.

How could that be? Were -you- the sacrifice? What use would that serve if you were dead? Unless of course… you aren't the sacrifice!

The apparition confirmed this; the sacrifice are your fellow Sisters in the tower!

It gives you a choice, handing you a small child's amulet. Leave amulet alone and thus let your sisters die, but giving you the knowledge and power to stop Sylvanas...Or smash the amulet, saving your Sisters, but leaving you with the knowledge that Sylvanas was still free upon the world.

Your Sisters...or the Banshee Queen. MAKE YOUR CHOICE! Make your choice!]]

Standing before the gates of Deatholme.

Searching for Thas'alah, the Mother Tree.

Although long-dead and covered in filth and corruption, the Sentinels find the roots of Thas'alah still shine a bright gold when they cut away slivers of the roots. When brought back to the Chamberlain as asked, the spirit tells them that Sylvanas has gone across the Great Sea to Northrend.

Making camp on Shalandis Isle. The Sentinels pause to rest and prepare for their long voyage, and to await the arrival of their ship, the Starrunner.

Promoting a new Keeper.

Three days into their long voyage, the Starrunner is beset by a beast of the depths. Only with great difficulty are the Sentinels able to fight off the creature and prevent it from destroying the ship.

Arrival at Valgarde, Howling Fjord. The Sentinels receive more news upon their landfall: a different Sentinel unit has passed through the port just days before. Adellwyna decides to pursue, in hopes of linking up with this fellow Cadre.

Setting off into the wilds of Northrend.

The Sentinels come across the site of a vrykul ambush...one that went very badly for them. The vrykul all seem to have been killed by Kaldorei-crafted weapons. The other Sentinel cadre perhaps?

A wounded giant. A horribly injured and maimed storm giant warns the Sentinels that he has fought a powerful undead monstrosity and lost. He warns them that this undead creature still lurks in the surrounding woods. The Nemesis, perhaps?

Arrival at Westguard Keep.

The garrison's commander, Captain Adams, confirms that a second Sentinel unit passed through just days before. They paused at the Keep only briefly, before continuing northward.

The Nemesis returns, breaching the gates of Westguard and turning his fury towards the Sentinels. Only the timely arrival of the wounded storm giant, who, sending both itself and the Nemesis plunging off the high cliffs, ends the fierce battle.

Departing Westguard Keep, once again on the trail of the other Sentinel company.

The Sentinels come across a grizzly sight: the vrykul have ambushed a trading caravan, killing many and taking any survivors to their village.

A daring rescue. Under the cover of darkness, the Sentinels infiltrate the vrykul village, setting part of it on fire to create a distraction. During the resulting chaos, they manage to whisk away the human captives before they meet a horrible end on the sacrificial pyre.

The Sentinels safely escort the remnants of the human trader caravan to Amberpine Lodge, in Grizzly Hills. There, they make another discovery...

They are informed by a local druidess that the other Sentinel party has indeed passed through the Lodge recently. Curiously, these mystery Sentinels split into two groups; one went east, the other west.

Final assembly and briefing at Amberpine Lodge.

Approaching remnants of Vordrassil, the Broken Crown.

The furbolg city of Grizzlemaw.

Having aided the Frostpaw tribe in the past, the Sentinels are welcomed in Grizzlemaw as friends.

A mystery revealed. Here they meet one of the Starshield Sentinels, too wounded to continue with her comrades. She explains why her company split in two, and that a Huntress has gone eastwards to the ancient dwarven city of Thor Modan. There, she hoped to find the under-tunnels leading directly to Icecrown Glacier, in hopes of bypassing the many dangers such a journey would bring. What she found, and if this Huntress still lives, is unknown.

Setting off for Thor Modan.

The old military camp of the Westfall Brigade. Overgrown and in disrepair, it still provides a workable camp for the Sentinels.

Traveling up the aptly-named Path of Iron.

The Gates of Thor Modan. Long-abandoned, the entrance is still watched over by a massive dwarven statue.

The ancient city has seen better days. Sometime long in the past, the roof of this mighty cavern has collapsed, leaving it open to the sky.

A dead end. The Sentinels find the rest of the cavern blocked by a cave-in. Whatever tunnels that might have led to the under-ways and the Icecrown Glacier are now buried under tons of rock and dirt. They can only hope that the Starshield Sentinels that came before them made it through alive.

An ancient guardian stirs. The Sentinels inadvertently activate an ancient trap, awakening a powerful dwarven rune golem. After a fierce battle against the construct of stone and iron, they manage to exit the city.
